Kultursymposium Weimar 2019
The Kultursymposium Weimar is a series of events organised by the Goethe-Institut in which an international group of experts, artists and speakers from a range of disciplines discuss the social issues that are affecting us globally. In an interdisciplinary programme of lectures, discussions, participative events and artistic interventions, a wide range of subjects will be examined from a number of different perspectives. For three days, more than 300 participants from all over the world will come together at the Weimar Kultursymposium, including representatives from science, culture, politics, business, journalism and publishing.

In the run-up to the Kultursymposium Weimar, accompanying events will take place at numerous Goethe-Institutes around the globe. Cultural traditions, local initiatives, artistic interventions and scientific approaches will enrich the symposium in Weimar with new voices and perspectives.
The first Kultursymposium Weimarnwas held in 2016 on the subject of The Sharing Game - Exchange in Culture and Society. The second edition from 19 to 21 of June 2019 is entitled Recalculating the Route. More than 300 participants will come to Weimar and discuss the great upheavals of our time.
All around the world, future pathways are being recalculated. Rapid technological development is producing fundamental changes in society, culture, and the economy, and is introducing unforeseen possibilities and posing many new questions. At the same time, the desire for manageable and easily understandable circumstances seems to be increasing worldwide. Straightforward answers to an increasingly complex world are in high demand, and not only in the political sphere.
We are pleased to announce three artists from Pakistan are selected for the Kultursyposium Weimar 2019 this year.
SEEMAB GUL
Seemab Gul, a British-Pakistani filmmaker with a BA in Fine Art and an MA in Filmmaking from the prestigious London Film School, has also been selected as one of the three final participants. Her films interweave documentary, fictional, and performative elements to explore social-political stories. Her work has been supported by Channel 4,CBA WorldView, Al Jazeera and Arts Council England. Seemab’s works have premiered in HotDocs, SXSW, Sheffield Doc Fest, Geneva Contemporary Art Centre, Macro Museum and many international festivals and galleries. Her portfolio includes documentaries, drama, hybrid films and art installations.
FIZA KHATRI
Fiza Khatri is one of the selected participants, she is an artist and an independent curator based in Karachi. She co-facilitates Karachi Crit Group, and has exhibited her work locally and internationally including in New York, Philadelphia, Lahore, and Karachi. Her work explores notions of how we live, and the dynamics of the spaces we occupy as told through the ubiquitous mundanities of everyday life
JAHANZEB HUSAIN
Jahanzeb Husain, also one one of the three selected participants read Political Science at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris in France and Simon Fraser University in Canada, and has worked for the Canadian Journal of Development Studies and The Centre for International Governance Innovation, University of Waterloo. He was the Chargé de Mission at the cultural section of the French Embassy in Islamabad, before joining Dawn.com where he is Editor Prism.
