A wide range of music events can be enjoyed online this week. Plus: discussions of digitization, literary observations about the corona crisis, artistic moves and the certitude that art, culture and creativity are indispensable, especially in times of quarantine and social distancing.

LITERATURE | YURII ANDRUKHOVYCH – DIE LIEBLINGE DER JUSTIZ (“Lovers Of Justice”)

NEW LITERATURE? PASS IT ON! The book launch for the German translation of Ukrainian writer Yurii Andrukhovych’s 2017 novel Die Lieblinge der Justiz (“Lovers of Justice”) was livestreamed on the Internet. The author talked to journalist Tomasz Kurianowicz about his latest book, which paints a panorama of murder, love, betrayal, crime and justice that spans whole centuries. TALK | DIGITAL SALON – HUMBOLDT INSTITUTE FOR INTERNET AND SOCIETY

DIGITAL IS BETTER – especially in times of a pandemic, argue the creators of the Digital Salon at the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society. Once a month the participants discuss the effects of digitization on society. The topic for the month of March is “Green Behind the Screen”: is digitization part of the problem or part of the solution to the climate crisis?

THEATRE | MUNICH KAMMERSPIELE

HOME THEATER 24/7. Every day for as long as the theatre remains closed, the Munich Kammerspiele will be putting online a house recording of a production from its programme for 24 hours. A livecam reading of Kein Freund außer den Bergen (“The Mountains My Only Friend”), the German translation of Kurdish-Iranian journalist Behrouz Boochani’s escape and internment on an Australian island, is scheduled for March 26.

DANCE | HOME PARTYING TO BERLIN CLUB MUSIC
 
AVOID CROWDS WHILST DANCING TO CLUB MUSIC? That need not be a contradiction in terms. To keep Berlin’s club culture alive, some clubs are livestreaming music daily from 7pm – e.g. from the Watergate, Tresor, Kater Blau, Rummels Bucht, Griessmuehle, Sage Club, Salon zur Wilden Renate, Sisyphos, Anomalie, Zur Klappe.

FESTIVAL | ARTISTIC MANOEUVRES FOR THE DIGITAL PRESENT
 
ALL DIGITAL. Don’t miss the Spy on Me #2 – Artistic Manoeuvres for the Digital Present festival’s online programme, which will only be online till 29 March. “We have arrived at the digital transformation of reality,” wrote the makers and shakers at Hebbel am Ufer (HAU) last year – little knowing how prescient these remarks and their digital programme would prove. “Screens, apps and algorithms now shape our daily lives, our behaviour, attention and desires, whilst digital tools are being used to reorganize public space and democracy.”

MUSIC | BAVARIAN STATE OPERA – MONDAY CONCERTS
 
CASUAL MONDAY OPERA. Since 23 March, the Bavarian State Opera has been livestreaming concerts starting at 8.15pm every Monday evening, so you can enjoy them in the comfort of your own home and in your most casual attire! The line-up runs the gamut from lieder and solo instrumentalists to chamber music ensembles and dance companies, featuring performances by members of the Bavarian State Orchestra and of the Bavarian State Ballet as well as soloists with close ties to the Bavarian State Opera, including violinist Julia Fischer, soprano Hanna-Elisabeth Müller, baritone Christian Gerhaher, pianist Gerold Huber, tenor Jonas Kaufmann, baritone Michael Nagy and bass Tareq Nazmi.
