for project (Incomplete) Instructions for Proper Assembly

Project summary

(Incomplete) Instructions for Proper Assembly is a year-long project exploring how people might gather, learn, and act together differently.  The project is organised around multiple event formats with various collectives, featuring small-scale activities like micro-lectures, workshops, and presentations. While seemingly discrete as events, these “micro” formats are entirely conversant with each other, and the result of ideas cross-pollinated over the course of six months of “assembly meetings”.

The project runs from January to December 2027.

Conceptual framework

Programmes in the project are loosely categorised accordingly:
  • School: programmes that re-interpret or challenge the notion and practice of assembly
  • Archive: programmes that archive, interrogate, reenact the history of assembly
  • Performance: programmes that present new productions in as a response to School & Archive programmes
The estimated working hours: 20 hours/week

Tentative programmes (not exhaustive):

  1. Launch event (late January) [school]: A weekend of micro-presentations by various collectives involved in the project, as well as a launch for the project as a whole.
  2. Citizen Digital Archive: Civil Society Collection by Post-Museum (year-long)
[archive]: A citizen archive documenting the people, organisations, projects and histories that have contributed to civil society in Singapore, with multiple inter-disciplinary activations events through the year.
  3. FFIGSkoolCamp: A three-day experimental film school by FFIGS (26 to 28 March)
[school]: A three-day experimental film school that asks: what might film education look like if the people inside a school were allowed to question, disobey and remake the school itself?
  4. And more to come…
