Patt Vira is a creative coder and educator exploring the intersection of art and technology. Working primarily with p5.js, a creative coding javascript library, she investigates how algorithmic processes can create playful, responsive experiences that invite audience participation. Currently she is developing a series exploring pattern systems and embodied interaction.

• New Media / Interactive / AR/VR
• Other: Web-based
Concept / Idea:
This interactive installation explores pattern formation through hexagonal Truchet tiles, which respond to human presence and movement. The work creates a dynamic visual landscape in which geometric patterns continuously reconfigure themselves. It invites viewers to become active participants in the generative process through body-tracked interaction.
Inspiration / Context:
Embodied Tiles is inspired by a playful exploration of hexagonal systems and the mathematical elegance of Truchet tiling patterns. The work builds upon traditions of generative art and interactive installation, while incorporating contemporary machine learning tools (ml5.js body tracking) to create an embodied dialogue between viewer and artwork. The piece investigates how simple geometric rules can generate complex behaviors when combined with physics simulation and human interaction.
Artist Statement:
This installation invites viewers to literally play with patterns. By tracking body movement, the hexagonal tiles become responsive instruments—shifting and rotating as participants move through the space. I'm interested in making the invisible rules of generative systems tangible and playful, transforming mathematical concepts into intuitive, embodied experiences. The hexagon becomes both visual motif and interactive interface, breaking down the boundary between observer and observed.
