Philippe Guilhon-Herbert plays Beethoven, Chopin and Schubert in his first ever Bangkok performance.
The pianist has chosen some powerful but gentle pieces for his performance. He will play one of the greatest and most difficult of Beethoven sonatas – Piano Sonata No. 21 Waldstein and one of Chopin’s most majestic compositions - Fantasie Impromptu. The audience can also look forward to some Schubert poetry, expressed most powerfully in his lyrical piano compositions.
Philippe Guilhon-Herbert performs in the auditorium of the Goethe-Institut Thailand on July 12th at 7 p.m.
About the artist
Philippe Guilhon-Herbert is a French concert pianist. He was born in Paris and studied at the Conservatoire Superieur de Paris, where he was awarded 1st prize for piano, chamber music and song accompaniment. The musician went on to study at the Freiburg College of Music where he graduated with distinction in recital and performance. During the course of his studies, he took part in master classes, most notably with the famous Maria Joao Pires and Aldo Ciccolini.
From 2009 to 2016, Philippe Guilhon-Herbert was professor of piano and chamber music at the Paris Conservatoire du 6eme. Since then his many performance have taken him to Berlin (UdK), Salzburg (Mozarteum), Paris (Philharmonic Orchestra, Paris Opera) and New York (French-American Foundation), to name but a few. As a soloist with the Orchestre des Musiciens de la Pré, Guilhon-Herbet performed both Chopin piano concertos. But the pianist also feels at home interpreting more modern compositions, such as those by Jonathan Harvey or Michael Levinas. He has also performed with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre de l’Opéra Lyon and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
Philippe Guilhon-Herbert moved to Bangkok in 2017 where he now teaches at the Peterson Academy. He has given several master classes at the Princess Galiani Institute of Music. He is part of the 2018 Jury of the Bangkok Steinway Competition.
Germany is something of a second home to Philippe Guilhon-Herbert. Over the years he has continued to give concerts, most particularly in the region of Baden-Württemberg (Friedrichshafen, Ravensburg and Überlingen).
