An event to celebrate the publication of the Thai translation of Daniela Krien’s novel
-
Library, Goethe-Institut Thailand, Bangkok
- Language Thai
- Price Free admission
Join us for a discussion with Pornchai Viriyaphrapanon (or Nara), Chotiros Naksut, Lyla Phimanrat, and Baramee Smathipunya on the subject of ‘Looking at Thai and German society through the lens of literature: similarities and differences’.
The discussion will be in Thai. There is no admission fee for the event.
Chotiros Naksut is part independent author, part office worker, admin for the ‘Sex is Art‘ Facebook page, and author of ‘Black Cherry: Desire is a Drug‘. Chotiros is particularly interested in sex and the power relations that this may obscure or amplify.
Lyla Phimanrat is the curator and director of Manycuts Artspace (an artistic community located in Chachoengsao) and of Manycuts Artspace Ari. Lyla is interested in Thai social and political movements, and these are a major influence on the shows that she curates.
The event will be moderated by Baramee Smathipunya, a published academic, and professional bookworm.

The 2011 publication of ‘Someday We'll Tell Each Other Everything’ marked the end of Daniela Krien’s journey from her background in Leipzig to the centre of the German literary world. Indeed, the novel’s popularity and high regard is such that it has now been translated into fifteen different languages.
‘Someday We'll Tell Each Other Everything’ is set against the run-up to German reunification in the summer of 1990. The books tells the story of seventeen-year-old Maria, who likes to read, and her life in a village in East Germany. Her interior world is also a vault of secrets sealed off from the society around her and open only to us, the readers.
