Dr. Renate Birkenhauer

Dr. Renate Birkenhauer is the honorary vice president of the Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium Straelen (EÜK), the first and largest international centre for translators of German language literature and non-fiction. Renate Birkenhauer studied linguistics and German literature and later earned a PhD in lexicography from Tübingen University. In 1983 she founded a small literary publishing house for the EÜK “Straelener Manuskripte”. The publications focus on special vocabulary, bilingual editions of foreign poetry, art and literary translation. She also contributes articles on language, translation, and dictionaries to “Übersetzen” (translation) magazine.
