Part time position (20 hours/week)
Start date June 01, 2023; contract position until June 01 2024


The Goethe-Institut is the globally-active cultural institution of the Federal Republic of Germany, with a global reach. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. We convey a comprehensive picture of Germany through information on the cultural, social, and political life of our country. Our cultural and educational programs promote intercultural dialogue and make cultural participation possible. They strengthen the development of structures of civil society and facilitate worldwide mobility.

General Responsibilities:
  • Answering phone calls and email inquiries
  • Monitoring email accounts
  • Customer service: greeting guests, answering general inquiries about language courses, cultural events, etc, guiding them to an event or a class they attend
  • Helping before, during and after events
  • Security: in case of emergency, call building management
  • Closing Goethe-Institut
  • Monitoring the entrance and public areas within the institute
  • Advisory service about events and activities of the Goethe-Institut for visitors and callers
  • Language Department assistance, including course information and registration aid
  • Support with company mailings and restocking displayed information material
  • Handling and distributing mail
  • General administrative assistance within the assigned deadlines
  • Additional assistance with events if necessary
Media Technician Responsibilities:
Before Event:
  • Set up chairs and external speakers
  • If needed: set up podium and microphone, get the projector and the screen ready
  • Set up cameras and microphones in case the event should be streamed
After Event: Take down all equipment and put them back.

Requirements:
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
  • Applicant must have a work permit or US citizenship.
  • Proficient German skills
  • Reliable applicant and flexible schedule, particularly in the evenings and weekends
Interest or skills in technology is a bonus. Employment is on an hourly basis, when needed.

The starting rate is $17.50/hour. 6 months into employment it is $18.50.
