The Goethe-Institut has partnered for many years with the annual Johannesburg International Mozart Festival. For 2021, due to the conditions imposed by the corona pandemic, ahybrid Festival is being planned, with both live concerts and online events. With the festival theme ‘Bridging the Gap’, a logical choice has been to plan open air concerts in some of the loveliest public spaces in the city. The aim with these concerts is to engage with the various communities near the concert venues, and to bring together the residents in the communities and their vicinities. The two concerts, which will be presented as a partnership between the Goethe-Institut, the Oppenheimer Memorial Trustand the Mozart Festival, will feature the Charl du Plessis trio along with soloist Musa Sakupwanya performing a variety of classical and South African works. The concerts will each be just under one hour. Entrance will be free, and though social distancing will be observed during the concert, the venues are both ideal settings in which to enjoy a family picnic before or after the music.
