Vredefort Ngwathe Municipality, Free State

(R E-KA'O-FELA) (meaning ‘we are together’) is committed to engaging prolific music practitioners to share their knowledge and skills, particularly with the disadvantaged in and around their communities as well as to facilitate collaboration between established musicians, and those who - despite their talent and potential - remain on the margins.

The project will offer workshops, discussions between artists and the community, and an open-air performance. This initiative will also assist in working towards establishing the first Free State Jazz Big Band.

The project aims at building up intergenerational ensembles as well as relevant concepts and works to encourage communities to support the arts by bringing performances closer to them. Most events will take place on street corners, at schools, colleges, universities, and community centers.

Ményatšô Mathôlê is a prolific South African guitarist, his music career started at an early age with his self-made tin guitar in the Free State, where, after a career on the international stage, he still resides today and is passionate about working with young and old.
