Cats are also an oft-chosen subject for French artist Christian Guémy, aka C215, spotted here in New York by Lunapark. He is celebrated for his intricate stencil paintings that often draw attention to marginalized groups. His rise to worldwide fame began when he was discovered by legendary artist Banksy in 2008 and featured in his satirical documentary Exit Through the Giftshop. Although art made with stencils is often discredited as static and two-dimensional, C215 has refined the technique to such an extent that his works have an impressionistic quality, as can be seen in this image. The subject is not just any cat, but Luna Park, namesake of the photographer, our #artbits blogger, librarian and author Luna Park.
