Let the students use their knowledge of German as a starting point and language of communication to explore their own multilingualism and new foreign languages and to develop their language awareness.
The material was created as part of project "Language expedition around the Baltic Sea" from the Goethe-Institut and has already been used by teachers in Baltic and Nordic countries. In six thematic units, learners deal with their own inner and outer multilingualism, with multilingualism in their country, with language comparisons and the basics of understanding foreign languages. All topics also invite comparison and exchange: cooperate with teachers in other schools or countries to exchange the results of working with the material - as a basis for further learning.
The teaching material is based on the principles of multilingual didactics: the learners compare, discover what they are familiar with in new languages and think about the differences and similarities between the different languages. The entire teaching material consists of the worksheets, which you can be printed out and given to the students, and the teacher guides for each worksheet, in which you will learn more about the theoretical background and receive recommendations for the implementation of the lesson. In a seventh unit you will find suggestions for online encounters between participating classes, so that the students can present their work results themselves and thus start a conversation with each other.
