Chapter LINGO Global issue 1: Life under water

Without water, there is no life on earth. Why? Water is the largest habitat for plants and animals. Water is also very important for all humans: the oceans and seas give us drinking water, food and oxygen. They regulate the climate. But life in the oceans and seas is also very threatened. People catch too much fish and produce too much waste. There is a lot of plastic waste in the sea. Climate change makes the sea too warm for plants and animals. Everyone agrees: it is time to protect the oceans and seas better. But how? What are people doing to solve the problems? What solutions already exist? What can you do yourself for cleaner seas? You can find answers, explanations and ideas in Lingo Global. 


The learning objectives are: 

• vocabulary building and expansion on the topic of "life under water
• addressing the problem of marine pollution and discussing possible solutions
• learning the facts about the earth and water in general
• formulating rules for environmentally conscious behavior and presenting them in the classroom
• examining and describing a picture
