Description
There is no such thing as one unified German school system. Each federal state is responsible for education policy in Germany. Thus, there are some differences between the states in the design of the general education system, but also in the other areas of education. Nevertheless, there are these commonalities:
The education system consists of five
major educational sectors: Elementary, Primary, Lower Secondary, Upper Secondary and Tertiary.
In the elementary sector, children up to the age of three, are cared for in daycare centers, while three- to six-year-olds go to kindergartens. In kindergarten, children learn about nature and technology through small experiments and playful lessons. They train their thinking and language skills and receive their first foreign language instruction.
