Thank you for your understanding!

In the fifth edition of our series “Syria: Quo Vadis?”, we join forces with KULTURAUSTAUSCH and  to celebrate the launch of the magazine’s new Syria-themed issue – an evening with award-winning filmmaker Feras Fayyad, musician Anas Maghrebi, and a glimpse into the striking photo archive of obsessive collector Ahmed Hasan, who has spent years documenting Syria’s history.

When the Assad regime collapsed in December 2024, hopes for a free Syria were high.Today, less than a year later, the country's future is completely uncertain. Violence against minorities is on the rise again. Is the situation hopeless? Will Syria once again sink into a civil war that will divide the country forever—or will it succeed in making anew start after decades of dictatorship? The answers to these questions are complexand contradictory. In its new issue, KULTURAUSTAUSCH magazine does not provide the answers itself, but instead gives Syrian authors and interviewees a chance to speak. The editorial team collaborated withthe online magazine QANTARA.DE on the content, and the Goethe-Institut in exile is presenting the launch of the new issue as part of its series“Syria: Quo Vadis?”.

This event is part of the “Syria: Quo Vadis?” series organized by the Goethe-Institut in Exile. Since early 2025, this series has created a space at Berlin’s ACUD Kunsthaus for critical reflection on Syria in the wake of the Assad regime’s fall. Across several evenings, the program explores essential questions of identity, memory, accountability, and visions for the future. The spotlight is on voices from the Syrian diaspora, who share the challenges, perspectives, and hopes they carry for their homeland.

Accessibility:
