We are delighted to welcome Palestinian author, translator, and researcher Alaa Alqaisi as a resident at the Literary Colloquium Berlin (LCB). From January 19 to March 1, 2026, she will live and work in Berlin with the support of the Goethe-Institut in Exile.

Alaa Alqaisi comes from Gaza and is currently a doctoral candidate at Trinity College Dublin. In her literary and academic work—published in ArabLit, ArabLit Quarterly, and Encounters in Translation, among others—she deals with questions of translation as a practice, but also in terms of resistance and survival.

During her residency, she will continue to work on her own writing and also take part in our public program. Two public appearances are already planned: On February 12, 2026, she will be at the LCB as part of the presentation of the guest authors. In addition, the Goethe-Institut im Exil is planning a reading, discussion, and music performance with various other Palestinian authors on February 25, 2026, at the Kunsthaus ACUD; more information will follow shortly.

We are also looking forward to connecting Alaa Alqaisi with the Berlin literary scene—an important step in linking Palestinian perspectives more closely with local discourses and cultural spaces.

Her residency will make another influential voice from exile in Berlin audible and visible. The Literary Colloquium Berlin offers the perfect setting for this: a place that has been bringing together authors from all over the world for decades and keeping literary exchange alive.
