Ghassan Sahhab

Ghassan Sahhab (born 1985) is a musicologist, composer, and musician. In 2017, he released Sharqi (My Orient), his first album as a musician and composer, and created various independent musical projects for theatre productions, films, and podcasts. He has performed in concerts and participated in projects in France, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, Azerbaijan, and across the Arab region. In addition to other projects, Ghassan Sahhab is a member of the classical Arabic music ensemble of Université Antoine and of the Asil Ensemble for contemporary Arabic music. He is the co-founder and musical director of Ma’azef, a cultural initiative dedicated to authentic Levantine music, and conducts research on musical traditions of the Arab Mashreq. Ghassan Sahhab is pursuing a PhD on the history and development of the zither and has participated in numerous musicological conferences in Germany, Tunisia, Egypt, and Lebanon. He has also taught at the American University of Beirut and, since 2011, at Université Antoine in Lebanon.
