The Science Film Festival marked its 14th edition in 2023. Organized by Goethe-Institut Indonesien, the festival returns with the support of its long-standing partners the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, The “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH), the Educational Cooperation Programme (BKD), Rolls-Royce, Atma Jaya Indonesia Catholic University, Paramadina University, and State University of Jakarta. The Teacher Association of the Republic of Indonesia (PGRI) is on board for the fi rst time. 18 fi lms from 12 countries were selected to be screened during the festival period from 21 October to 30 November in 70 cities in Indonesia.
The opening ceremony & press conference were held on 21 October 2023 at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. More than 350 guests joined the opening. Two fi lms were screened at the ceremony: “Checker Tobi: The Waste Check” from Germany and “The Village Illuminator” from Indonesia.
The Science Film Festival in Indonesia was also supported by many media and venue partners: Deutsche Welle Indonesia, Bobo, Tempo, Kompas, Wisma Jerman Surabaya, Alliance Française de Medan, Indonesia Science Center, Taman Pintar Yogyakarta, Pontianak Science and Linguistic Center, Sundial Science Center, PASCH schools, BKD schools as well as other schools, institutions, cultural centers and venue partners. Together with their support and cooperation, the festival offered hands-on experiences for children in their interaction with science. In 2023, the festival reached 271 schools and recorded 100,691 participants in Indonesia.
