An enrolment confirmation will be emailed to you after payment has been received. A receipt will also be provided.

2.2   If full payment is not received by the due date, the participant loses their right to participate. In such cases, the Goethe-Institut (hereafter referred to as “GI”) retains its entitlement to the course fee.

2.3   We accept payment EFTPOS, credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Debit Card). The course fees include 10% GST.

3. Course fees

3.1 The contractually binding fee is the fee stated in the price list current at the time of application.

3.3 At the completion of three consecutive 30-hour courses, course participants will be eligible for a 25% discount on their fourth course. It is the students responsibility to claim their Goethe-Liebling Loyalty discount when enrolling in their fourth course. Please contact the language course office to receive your unique discount code before completing the online-enrolment. Applications for withdrawals from a course must be received in writing up to 5 business days before the start of the course. The Goethe-Institut will fully refund your course minus a $50 service charge. No cancellation will be allowed after course commencement. It is not possible to transfer a course or a part of a course to a third party or the next term. No (partial) refunds are possible for students who miss one or more classes.

4.2 If enrolment numbers are insufficient on the starting date, we reserve the right to cancel or postpone the course. In this case we will offer the participants the opportunity to move to another course or to receive a full refund of the course fee. We regret that we can only conduct courses that have the minimum number of participants by the end of the enrolment period. To avoid cancellations of courses, we advise students to register before the Early-Bird deadline.
5. Course level assignment / class size

5.1 Placement in course levels is based on the placement test conducted by the Goethe-Institut.

5.2 Our courses have at least 7 students. If enrolments are insufficient on the starting date, we reserve the right to cancel the course or shorten teaching times. In that case we will contact you before course commencement.

Classes with less than 5 course participants will only run after discussion with prospective students. The smaller class sizes provide more personal attention and therefore students will progress through the course material at a faster rate. The course fee remains the same for smaller classes.

6. Course Transfers

Transfers into another level will only be considered in the first week of the term, after discussion with the course-coordinator.

7. Public Holidays

No classes are held on Australia-wide public holidays. Replacement sessions will be provided.

8. Responsibilities of participants

Participants are obliged to comply with the house rules applicable to the Goethe-Institut.

9. Liability of the Goethe-Institut

The liability of GI and its staff is limited to intent and gross negligence. The GI also accepts no liability for the cancellation of its services due to force majeure (e.g. natural disasters, fire, floods, war, official orders and all other circumstances beyond the control of the contractual parties).

10. Lockdown Regulations

The Goethe-Institut Australien is committed to the health and safety of our students, as well as to finding solutions to continue uninterrupted German classes. Therefore, should we find ourselves unable to continue offering face-to-face classes due to the public health crisis, all courses will be moved to virtual group sessions, with an equivalent amount of live interaction with the tutor. By registering for our current face-to-face courses, you agree that you have read this notification, and that you accept the digital alternative in the event that courses must be offered digitally.
Please note: no refunds will be given in the event of temporarily replacing face-to-face classes with a digital alternative.

Our German Courses

If you have previously studied German and are not sure which course to enrol in, our placement test will enable us to place you in the appropriate course for your level.

If you would like sign up for one of our courses online, please use our course finder. Alternatively, you can always give us a call in our language course offices in Sydney or Melbourne.

Our course system is based on the six levels defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This means that the language skills you acquire in our courses can be measured objectively and are internationally recognised.

Learning is an individual process. The amount of time you need to reach a certain level depends on a variety of individual factors: your commitment, time allocated to your learning, and how much you take advantage of additional practice resources. It depends also on the intensity of the instruction (intensive vs. evening courses, for example). We suggest that you consult the language course office in Sydney or Melbourne to request a personal consultation.

Please don't hesitate to contact the language course department about your specific learning requirements. We will try to match your requirements with the most suitable course format to maximise your learning outcome.

Course and exam fees must be paid in full before commencement of the course or exam. We accept:

Credit card (Mastercard or Visa)

Please find attached a step by step instruction for your online learning platform registration:

The Goethe-Institut has developed its own, unique course material, which is available to all of our enrolled students for the length of their respective 30 hour courses plus an additional 12 weeks after course completion. All material is included in the course fee.

Please make sure to try and dedicate at least the suggested amount of time to complete your assigned task on the online learning platform. If you are struggling with set tasks or have missed a class, please contact your teacher to receive help. Additionally, we have scheduled a fortnightly consultation hour where a teacher will be answering any question via Zoom. Details in your Online Classroom or in our language course offices.

Write your problems and questions in the participants’ forum. Your teacher will respond within 48 hours.

We have established a fortnightly session on Zoom with one of our teachers. Here, you can directly ask the teacher any questions that remained unsanswered during course time or your self-study. This is a free service for enrolled students only. Please check your online platform or contact the language course office for up-to-date session times and access.

Get in touch with your teacher via email. They will respond within 48 hours.

Students must choose a course format when enrolling. A change of formats during the term is not possible.

There is no fixed deadline, however, we recommend enrolling as early as possible to avoid course cancellations.

You will receive a certificate of participation at the end of your course provided that you have completed at least 70% of online-units as well as a 70% attendance at group-sessions. There is no formal certification or Goethe language exam needed to proceed to the next course level.

The exam is not part of the course and must be booked and paid for separately.
