German Language Week

German Language Weeks is an international project that showcases the German language in all its facets. Over a period of several weeks, it brings together activities, events and initiatives centred on German – coordinated, interconnected and with a clear shared focus.
Those who take part in the German Language Weeks benefit from a strong network, high visibility and the prestige of an internationally recognised initiative. Together, we create spaces for new perspectives, creative ideas and sustainable collaborations.
We look forward to inspiring encounters, joint projects and working together to further promote the German language.

What is the German Language Week?

German Language Week is an annual event aimed at celebrating and promoting the German language and culture. The event was initiated by the Goethe-Institut in New Zealand and successfully celebrated for the first time in 2024. This year, we are partnering up with our neighbours in New Zealand to extend the event to schools in Australia and make this event even more special.

The activities are easy to implement and can be carried out without significant or with no costs. Additionally, the schedule is flexible, allowing schools to participate at their convenience. This event can help students decide whether to continue learning German and increase the visibility of the German program at your school.

Previous German Language Weeks

The German Language Weeks started in 2025 as a joint initiative of the Goethe-Institut New Zealand and the Goethe-Institut Australia. On this page, you can explore what classes and participants have created and achieved in previous years.
