Documentary Film Screening
Dive into the deep end of the world of big money with this thorough and funny documentary. As inequality continues to grow and big banks’ problems are paid for by small customers, money is rising to the top while the planet's resources are being depleted. Oeconomia shows why – and how – this happens.
The film’s director Carmen Losmann is known for using meticulousness and intelligence in combination with humour and creativity. In Oeconomia she literally takes the viewer into the heart of a world of glass and concrete, where economists, bankers and CEOs try to explain the capitalist game.
Losmann’s approach is refreshingly bold: she asks seemingly simple questions like “Where does money come from?” only to watch the experts struggle as they attempt to answer what appears to be a naïve enquiry. For her previous film Work Hard – Play Hard Losmann was awarded Germany’s important Grimme-Preis.
