This May to June, the 2024 German Film Festival will showcase the best contemporary German cinema direct from major festivals in Europe plus a selection from its German-speaking neighbours, Austria and Switzerland.

The festival screens from 07 May – 05 June in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Byron Bay.

First highlights include the acclaimed new drama from Camera d’Or winning writer/director Claire Burger, Foreign Language (Langue Ètrangère), the comedy/drama One For The Road from director Markus Goller (25km/h GFF19) and Thomas Stuber’s ensemble drama Dark Sattellites.

As a special guest of the festival, the award-winning director of the opening film From Hilde, with Love, Andreas Dresen, will attend the opening receptions in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
In Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, he will also take part in Q&A-sessions.

From the popular ‘Kino for Kids’ section, presented by the Goethe-Institut, comes Mission: School of Fun (Die unlangweiligste Schule der Welt – Auf Klassenfahrt). Family friendly film The Flying Classroom (Das fliegende Klassenzimmer) is a big-screen adaptation of Erich Kästner’s best-selling children’s and young adult's book of the same name.

We are thrilled to celebrate 70 Years of German Films.

The full programme can be found here. Tickets are on sale.
