This all-day workshop focuses on building productive skills, particularly speaking. It is based on the advanced training and professional development series by the Goethe-Institut, “Deutsch Lehren Lernen” which aims to enhance teaching methodology and didactics for German language instruction. Participants will learn to apply these concepts and approaches in their classroom practice.

The morning session will concentrate on the role of the teacher in the interaction process. We will explore questions such as how to create a positive learning atmosphere, how to provide verbal and non-verbal feedback, how to handle learner comments, and how to use routines in the classroom.

In the afternoon session, the focus will be on “Sprechen”. We will examine the characteristics of spoken language, the processes involved in speaking, and exercises that prepare our students for successful speaking. We consider how to train fluent speaking, try out playful exercises to promote speaking skills, and evaluate digital tools for practising speaking skills.

Attendees from the Young Teachers Network are encouraged to plan and implement a PEP/ Practical Exploration Project. With a PEP, you will examine an aspect of teaching that is personally important or new and interesting to you. This approach allows you to observe and to evaluate your teaching and potentially to transform your teaching methods. Follow-up coaching and feedback from peers and our trainer will be provided. To develop questions for the PEP and clarify the project's implementation process, individual online sessions with the trainer will be held in the week following the workshop. The PEPs will be presented in another online session for all participants at the end of Term 1. Please note: The workshop has been rescheduled. New date is Fri 28th February 2025.
