As teachers, we reflect on our practice after every lesson: what went well and what didn't go so well? This reflection often leads to trying out something new or adapting learning activities.

Five German teachers from VIC have not only carried out this reflection in their minds, but have also worked on a Classroom Action Research Project (CARP) in Term 2 as part of a pilot project organised by the Goethe-Institut. Guided and supported by the Goethe-Institut, they asked themselves the question: ‘What happens in my classroom when I do X?’

These teachers will present their projects in two Meet-Ups.
In the first meeting, we will find out what changes in student participation
  • when a large amount of time is spent on presenting results, and
  • how student motivation is changed when workstations deliberately offer choices.
In a second Meet-Up, we will look at what happens
  • if all students carry out a short oral interaction exercise at the start of each lesson or
  • if do-now tasks based on Gianfranco Conti's model are carried out,
  • and explore the effect of structuring an entire Year 11 lesson by a picture impulse discussion.
Exciting, isn't it? We will discuss these five projects, the motivation behind them and their results and also how Classroom Action Research Projects can enrich your own teaching.

Meet-Up 1 on 26 June, 6:30 – 7:30pm Meet-Up 2 on 24 Juli, 6:30 – 7:30pm  This project is supported by the Victorian Government.
