Event Series: Natascha Stellmach: The Letting Go [2012-2026]
Natascha Stellmach: The Letting Go [2012-2026] is a multidisciplinary event series centered on the artist’s long-term participatory project of the same name. Developed by Australian-German artist Natascha Stellmach since 2012, The Letting Go explores themes of vulnerability, healing, transformation, and personal release at the intersection of visual art, psychotherapy, embodied practices, ritual, and Buddhist philosophy.
The event series brings together several formats:
Exhibition: Featuring photographs, documentation, and materials from The Letting Go, a project comprising more than 130 intimate participatory encounters conducted over several years.
Guided Tour: Curated exhibition tours providing insight into the development, methodology, and artistic context of Stellmach’s practice.
Artist Talk: A conversation with Natascha Stellmach about her artistic research, the role of ritual in contemporary art, and the evolution of The Letting Go as a participatory performance practice.
At the heart of the project lies the question: “What would you like to let go of?” Participants are invited to identify a personal obstacle, which is symbolically inscribed onto the body through a so-called “Bloodline Tattoo” — a tattoo performed without ink. As the wound heals and gradually disappears, the process becomes a lived experience of impermanence, transformation, and healing.
The event series offers insights into both the artist’s work and her personality, as she reflects on her life in Australia and Germany. The theme of cultural identity plays a particularly significant role in shaping her artistic practice.
