The Goethe-Institut, in collaboration with Linden New Art, is pleased to present The Letting Go [2012-2026], an exhibition by Australian artist Natascha Stellmach.

Spanning the period 2012–2026, The Letting Go marks the culmination of fourteen years of encounters between the artist and participants from across the globe. At the core of this interdisciplinary project lies a simple yet profound question: What would you like to let go of?

Situated at the intersection of visual art, psychotherapy, embodied research and Buddhist practice, The Letting Go unfolds as a participatory and deeply personal artistic process. Central to the work is Stellmach’s Bloodline tattoo—a word inscribed into the skin without ink—conceived as a symbolic act of reflection, release and transformation.

The exhibition brings together new photographic and mixed-media works, alongside participatory installations that invite audiences to engage with themes of vulnerability, healing and emotional transformation.

Publication
The exhibition coincides with the release of the book The Letting Go (Verlag Kettler, 2026), which brings together over 130 previously unpublished encounters, photographic works and essays. The publication will be available during the event. 
 

Natascha Stellmach

Artist

Natascha Stellmach is an Australian artist whose interdisciplinary practice spans performance, photography, installation, and text. For over three decades, her work has explored questions of embodiment, identity, vulnerability, and emotional transformation.

Born to German parents who emigrated to Australia, Stellmach grew up between cultural contexts that continue to shape her artistic perspective. She has long lived and worked between Melbourne and Berlin, inhabiting both worlds and drawing on their cultural and intellectual frameworks as integral parts of her practice.
Her work often exists at the intersection of art and other fields, including psychotherapy, somatic practice, and ritual traditions. Through long-term projects such as The Letting Go [2012-2026], she develops participatory formats that connect personal experience, collective processes, and artistic research.

Stellmach’s work has been exhibited internationally in museums, galleries, and institutional contexts. Her practice is defined by a deep engagement with human experience, inviting audiences to encounter art as a space for reflection, connection, and transformation.
