The internet has long become the place where people first meet us. Our personal websites, Facebook pages, Twitter handles introduce us to the world. And we eagerly add new digital profiles, user ID's and avatars of all sorts on a daily basis. Our doubles are out there – and they are alive.

YOU ARE OUT THERE tells a classical doppelgänger story as multimedia data theatre. The Berlin based performance group juggles our digital and administrative doubles in real time, mixes the history of identification with cheap magic, shows how identities become fluid, and get out of hand.

Birth certificates, driver’s licenses, passports, visas, work permits and biometric photos: in the databases of government offices, our doubles live off us. At the same time, corporations exploit them for their own purposes. While our ubiquitous self-portraits on social media are used by state security systems and private companies, these actors are gaining more and more control over our physical existence. Doubles are turning into doppelgängers, pursuing their own agenda, turning against us. And just like in any good doppelgänger story, we keep feeding them with our dreams and traumas, unaware that we are making them stronger with every move.

With experimental IT technology and the help of a sleazy magician, YOU ARE OUT THERE  explores the scope of identity manipulation. Turning the audience into accomplices of a multimedia ghost story.

doublelucky productions is interested in the invisible infrastructures that organize and influence our lived environment: from high frequency trading to smartphone monitoring to social media bots. They attempt to create theatrical situations that make these digital architectures visible and experiential. Since 2004 the group centered around Chris Kondek and Christiane Kühl along with various artistic partners has created performances and installations that have toured nationally and internationally, including Festival/Tokyo, Bo:m Festival Seoul, Kunstenfestivaldesarts Brussels, NET Festival Moscow,  Tampere Festival. Their work has received various awards, among them at the Festival Politik im Freien Theater and by 3sat tv. In 2017, they created the performance "Eritunnused"/"Distinguishing Marks" with Estonian artists at Vaba Lava Theatre, also shown at the National Museum of Estonia.

Idella Craddock is a theatre maker and technologist. They have designed interactive objects and systems that are central to theatrical works such as Cuckoo by Jaha Koo, Johannes Paul Rather‘s Apple Store performance, Boys Space by The Agency and several works in collaboration with doublelucky productions. Idella‘s artistic research addresses the false hopes and fears placed in technological innovations by situating modern techo-philia in the context of present and historical pseudo-sciences.
