Workshop presented by Marc Sabat with practical assistance by Rebecca Lane and Thomas Nicholson.
“Harmonic Space: exploring the sounds of “rational” or “just” intonation with Marc Sabat (composer/violinist, Berlin/Helsinki/Canada) and guest musicians from the Berlin-based Harmonic Space Orchestra: Rebecca Lane (composition/microtonal flutes, Berlin/Australia) and Thomas Nicholson (composition/viola/keyboards, Berlin/Canada)
Open to any interested participants and any musical backgrounds. Instruments welcome but not necessary. Global music practices and traditions welcome. The workshop will include some presentations of microtonally extended rational tuning (music and theoretical introduction) and an opportunity to make, share, and experience sounds in a relaxed collective setting. Everyone is welcome to participate in any way they feel comfortable, listening, using voice, gesture, playing, inventing sound-making exercises, etc. We will offer a window into our practices of composing and improvising with tuned harmonic sounds as an impulse to dialogue and new creation.”
