Towards the end of the First World War: on a section of the French frontline, British soldiers are awaiting the German spring offensive. At his own request, the young Lieutenant Raleigh has been sent to the company of Captain Stanhope. Stanhope, who is in a relationship with Raleigh's sister, fears that Raleigh might find out that his potential brother-in-law has turned to whisky to be able to cope with the horrors of the war and the confinement of the trenches. During an advance to the German lines, Raleigh experiences the death of his mentor, Lieutenant Osborne. The next morning, the Germans attack. Raleigh is mortally wounded. THE OTHER SIDE was banned in Germany one and a half years after its premiere.
