It is about fraternal twins Isabel and Doreen, who are rowers from the former German Democratic Republic. In 1988, they travelto Hungary to a pioneer camp on Lake Balaton. They meet two West Germans - Arne and Nico on the way. Arne and Doreen fall in love with each other and feverishly consider how they can stay together. They subsequently plan how Doreen and Isabel could leave the country illegally.
