December 2020 The Nutcracker

Der Nussknacker
NordSüd

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without...the Nutcracker! The poet Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann created a classic in 1816 with his Fantasy about the Nutcracker and Mouse King. After more than 200 years it is still very popular, and has found its irreplaceable place among adults and children during Christmas season.

Marie is a girl full of exuberant fantasy. On Christmas Eve Marie discovers a nutcracker under the Christmas tree and immediately realizes that it contains a very special secret. When an army of mice enters the room at night, a dramatic story of love and enmity unfolds. Hoffmann's well-known fairy tale artfully intertwines reality and fantasy.

This December you will find a book showcase about Christmas at the Goethe Library. One of the books is E.T.A. Hoffmann's world-famous work "The Nutcracker". This time we have chosen a version with illustrations by Lisbeth Zwerger and the story newly narrated by Susanne Koppe.
