The public library service in Hamburg is the largest out-of-school educational offer and the most frequented cultural service of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Their central children library opened in 2004 and developed into a successful showcase for children media. The children library also became one of the most important extracurricular providers for education and culture programs in Hamburg. Together with internal and external partners the central children library develops, implements and evaluates new concepts for reading promotion. The lecture will look at relations, possibilities and challenges for contemporary children library services in Germany based on practical examples. The following dialogue with local library professionals will examine methodologies for modern and future-orientated reading promotion.
