Art Publishing in Germany

Whenever you want to get access to the photographs of Romy Schneider, the paintings of Max Ernst, the work of Norman Foster or new developments in media art, you are referred to art books of German publishers as main source of information.

Publishing art books has a long tradition in Germany. The exhibition Art Publishing in Germany, based on a concept jointly set up by the Goethe-Institut Hongkong and Hong Kong Public Libraries, was first shown in Hong Kong Central Library in March 2006 and presented around 400 art books that were published in Germany during the past few years in English or bilingual editions. From 16.11. – 16.12.2006 the collection will be on display in Lingnan University Library, enriched by a selection of the 2006-editions of German art publishers.

The exhibition gives an insight into the quality of design and printing of contemporary art publishing in Germany as well as an overview of contemporary trends in German art including the fields of design, photography and architecture.
