Goethe-Institut Hongkong is proud to invite visitors to a journey along the exhibition “Exquisite” with photobooks from Germany and Hong Kong. The 2016 winners of the renowned German Photobook-Prize „ Deutscher Fotobuchpreis “ - a price dedicated to outstanding photographic, conceptual- aesthetic or photo-historic achievement in printed photobooks - will be presented.

These 22 titles were selected by an expert group and they showcase works of photographers from all over the world. Topics of this selection are widely ranged, while all books were published recently in German speaking countries.

Since 2013, the “Deutscher Fotobuchpreis” is awarded annually by the German Publishers and Booksellers Organisation, Regional Association Baden-Württemberg  (Börsenverein des deutschen Buchhandels, Landesverband Baden Württemberg e.V.).

Apart from photobooks from Germany, visitors can also enjoy a spotlight on Hong Kong local photo books in a selection of current publications, most of them are independently published. This selection is curated by Dustin Shum, photographer and co-founder of
The Salt-Yard, an independent art space devoted to photography in Hong Kong.

All books are on display and allow an encounter of the photographer’s vision of the world no matter in large coffee-table books or in experimental format. The appearance of the books will not only attract the eyes of the visitors but also create a platform for discussion.

The talk "What is a photo-book? Exploring winning concepts in contemporary photobooks" will be held on 11. 8. 2016. Please click here for more information.
