The 2nd screening of Black Box Kino – the film club for learners at the Goethe-Institut Hongkong - will take place on September 24. We have selected the highly topical feature film “Colour of the Ocean” (2011) by Maggie Peren about the humanitarian and political problems in Europe in dealing with the influx of African immigrants. The film tells the misery occurred in the holiday paradise, where the German tourist Nathalie gets tangled up in a refugee tragedy.

A boat of Africans is stranded; Nathalie saw, among the survivors a man with his little son. She wants to help, yet a police officer sends her away; his daily routine has made him merciless. Later, the refugee Zola and the little Mamadou approach the German and she picks the side of the needy – against her husband’s will. However, the money, with which she wants to provide the African and help him flee to the mainland, leads to a tragedy she could not foresee.

The film (91 min.) will be shown in German, the original language, with English subtitles. Audience is invited to join the post-screening discussion.
