Game Night: Surviving the Art World!

Goethe-Institut Hongkong is pleased to present the popular fun-filled and inspiring board game "Surviving the Art World!" created by local curators and art critics Vivian Ting and Jeff Leung on April 28, 2022 (Thu) at 7:00pm in the Library of the Goethe-Institut.
 
How does the art world operate? What makes a "successful" artist?

Join us at the game night and have fun with the board game "Surviving the Art World!". Going through the paths of local artists: sharing studio with friends, participating in an exhibition, finding a part-time job, applying funding, and updating your IG posts, you are required to manage yourself as well as your art projects while collecting creative works and energy points to survive the art world.

Mapping the local art ecology, this board game invites you to think about how to work with the private and public sectors, and make professional choices without compromises.

There will be three sets of the same board game (one set in bilingual and two sets in Chinese). Each set will accommodate up to 7 players. The games will be moderated by Vivian Ting and Jeff Leung in Chinese and in English.

Fee: HK$40 available on art-mate. Maximum number of participants: 20

Leung Chin Fung, Jeff, is an independent curator and teaching theories of visual culture and arts administration at local universities on a part-time basis. Jeff is the member of the art critics group Art Appraisal Club and International Association of Art Critics Hong Kong, besides he often contributes reviews and guided tours for art exhibitions. Jeff creates his own style of the engaged tour by incorporating methods of engaged learning and visual thinking strategies. Between the games and dialogues in his engaged tour, visitors are faciliated to have their own viewing experiences and then explore further the meanings of the exhibition and its artworks.

Vivian is an independent curator and researcher. Recently, she has been working with universities and art organizations to develop curatorial projects that encourage multiple narratives of local culture and history, articulated through creative means. Her research interest focuses on art interpretation theories and cultural imaginations of diverse audience groups in considering how public life can be shaped in the community. She has been involved in various art projects, such as Envision Hong Kong (2016), Art Critics at Oi! (2018-2019), and Hong Kong Impressions (2020).
