A man stands in a pool of light. An actor. He talks about himself, about this event we call »theatre«. An event that is dictated by a tight set of conventions and parameters. The man talks about it like a scientist from a different time would, analysing the event while it is happening. What is »theatre« at its core? Why does it exist? And for whom? Why do actors pretend to be someone else? And why do we as an audience (Clancy calls us »the strangers«) watch them with rapt attention and above all: silently?

Director David Ortmann extends this already multilayered monologue to another (digital) level; converting it into a virtual reality performance on 360-degree video. Creating a hybrid medium between theatre and film, Staatstheater Augsburg is exploring new means of artistic expression, inviting you, via your VR goggles, to become part of the stage action. Immersive theatre that involves us at close quarters.
