Recreation Room D is part of The Missing Link project, curated by GayBird and Vanissa Law.

The exhibition invites the audience to participate both online and offline. You can download a desktop game application and explore the exhibition through the game. The Goethe-Gallery and the 1:1 virtual exhibition space are designed according to the recreation youth centres in the 90s, based on the layout of the Goethe-Gallery. Through the game, participants control the robotic arm and other mechanics in the actual exhibition space to play Novuss and Table Football. Computers will be placed in the Black Box Studio for the audience who want to discover the online experience.

Artist Statement:

Social media has brought tremendous changes to intrapersonal, interpersonal, group and mass communication processes. As millennials we witnessed the changes in communication patterns, as we were born in the analogue world, and grew into the digital era of living a virtual life rather than a virtuous life. We vainly, and inevitably, hope to replace the in-person contacts with virtual communications. Though, after being in a pandemic for almost 2 years, we have to admit that the tactile form of communication is indispensable. Humans are by nature social animals after all.

KENNY WONG

Wong was born in 1987 in Hong Kong. Wong has pursued his MFA in Sculpture at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada in 2019. Wong received his BA in Creative Media from the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong in 2011, where he was also a part-time Lecturer in 2015. Wong has established Things That Move Ltd. in 2020, and aims to produce more creative projects via a team format.

By hybridizing analogue and digital representations, Wong’s works explore the delicate relationship between daily experiences and perceptual stimulations. Wong is interested in exploring visual patterns, motions, and sound textures, as well as in presenting works in the form of computational kinetic sculptures. Wong actively works as a collaborating artist, multimedia designer, mechanical engineer/designer, and art researcher.

Things That Move Ltd.(“TTM”) is a creative studio that offers art, design & technology services and sustains its freshness via experiment and research. TTM offers tailor-made solutions as well as R&D services for the art and creative industry. We are specialized in integrating the physical and digital, blurring the boundaries between art, design and engineering, generating new experience for creative, cultural institutions and commercial brands. TTM specialize in kinetic installation, interactive robotics, immersive and digital installation. Our team also initiates artwork and research output to push beyond new experience and represent at the application level.
