"With this exhibition we also celebrate a special anniversary: 60 years of activity of the Goethe-Institut in Hong Kong," remarked Dr. Almuth Meyer-Zollitsch, Director of Goethe-Institut Hongkong and the curator of THE FEMALE GAZE. "When I began to research about female positions in German contemporary art, I soon came across the MalerinnenNetzWerk Berlin-Leipzig, an association of 29 women painters. Together with Tanja Selzer, artist and coordinator of the network, a journey began and finally reached its destination with the opening of the exhibition at the Goethe-Gallery and Black Box Studio." "In addition to the selected female painters, I invited the sculptress Laura Eckert, whose heads and busts created from found wood impressed me deeply with their intense physical/ spatial presence."
