The Book - Hausbesuche – Wie ich mit 200 Kuchen meine Nachbarschaft eroberte (English: Home visits – How I conquered my neighbourhood with 200 cakes)
Stephanie Quitterer baked a cake every day for 200 days and rang a doorbell in her neighborhood to invite herself for coffee. In the book “Hausbesuche” she recounts her experiences.Following her passion for hidden parallel universes, Stephanie Quitterer embarks on an extraordinary field study: for 200 days, she invites herself into strangers’ homes every day, spontaneously, unannounced and with homemade cakes.
In search of prejudices, stereotypes and the East-West divides in Berlin’s gentrification-ravaged Prenzlauer Berg district, hours of conversation take place at strangers’ kitchen tables, from messy flats to designer lofts, but above all, friendships and an unexpected love for all human beings are formed.
About the author:
Stephanie Quitterer worked with street children in Rio de Janeiro and interned at Augusto Boal’s theatre projects in youth prisons. She studied politics in Berlin and Cairo and theatre in Munich.
