How do I organize an exhibition? What do I need to consider? The APIK training program provides the fundamental knowledge required for professional exhibition-making.

Against the backdrop of the rapid development of the Indonesian art scene, organizational work in the exhibition field is becoming increasingly important. Nevertheless, it is still rarely perceived as an independent professional field of activity.

The APIK qualification program, developed in collaboration with the German curator and exhibition maker Leonhard Bartolomeus, offers practical insights into this professional practice. In 15 video modules, all key stages of exhibition organization are covered—from structure and financing to cooperation, public relations, and audience development, as well as production, logistics, and teamwork.

Mentors

a.k.a. Agung Hujatnikajennong holds a doctoral degree from the Faculty of Art and Design of Institut Teknologi Bandung. From 2001 to 2012, Hujatnika served as Chief Curator at Selasar Sunaryo Art Space. Hujatnika has curated many major national and international exhibitions, including Indonesia Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale, Venice (2017); Not a Dead End. Indonesia Encounters the Arab Region, Jogja Biennale, Yogyakarta (2013); and Exquisite Corpse, Bandung Pavilion at the 9th Shanghai Biennale, Shanghai (2012).

He has also curated a number of solo shows by renowned contemporary Indonesian artists such as Agus Suwage, Ade Darmawan, Handiwirman Saputra, and Jompet Kuswidananto. Together with Charles Esche, in 2017 he curated Art Turns, World Turns, the inaugural exhibition of MACAN (the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara).
Aprina Murwanti has 15 years of professional experience in the world of arts education, research and management of social programs. She has an educational background in the field of contemporary art practice from Wollongong University, Australia, a business and management education from Sydney Business School, and textile crafts at Institut Teknologi Bandung. Her aim is to make visual arts more accessible to the general public through strategies that are oriented to knowledge distribution, community necessities, and public participation. Aprina has served as Head of Public Education and Programs at the MACAN Museum since 2018.
Ening Nurjanah has been involved in art management for fifteen years, beginning with the contemporary photography art gallery Octagon. As Gallery Manager, Ening has managed several major exhibitions, one of which is a photography exhibition curated by M. Firman Ichsan entitled 60 Years of Indonesian Independence, which took place simultaneously at Museum Nasional and three other sites in Jakarta.

In 2018, Ening also organized the painting exhibition 56 x 76, a collaboration between Hanafi and Goenawan Mohamad at Galeri Nasional Indonesia. Her interest in organizing art events has evolved toward performance and the performing arts, and interest that has resulted in the production of several theater and dance performances. She is the Program Manager at Komunitas Salihara since 2008.

Salihara
Gintani Nur Apresia Swastika is an artist who, over the years, has been involved in various group exhibitions, residency programs and art projects in Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan and Australia. She is co-founder of Ace House Collective, an artist collective with popular cultural approaches—contextually and conceptually—to discover fresh perspectives in arts. She has participated in numerous local and international art forums. These include TRANScuratorial Academy (Mumbai, India 2017), the 7th Gwangju Biennale International Curator Course (Gwangju, South Korea 2016), and 4A Curators’ Intensive, Emerging Curator Forum, at 4A Center for Contemporary Asian Art (Sydney, Australia 2014).

Working collectively where responsibilities are shared equally, she develops her artistic, curatorial and managerial practices through the Ace House Collective and various other art projects, such as Festival Kesenian Yogyakarta (2019) as creative director, and Arisan Tenggara: Forum Kolektif Asia Tenggara (2018) as director.

MG Pringgotono has been involved in arts since 1997 and studied art at Universitas Negeri, Jakarta. His dream was to become a school teacher, but he discovered that being an artist is much more interesting and inspiring. In 2006, together with a group of friends, he founded a teachers and artists collective known as SERRUM, which focuses on public education and arts education.

From 2016 to 2018 he worked as Program Manager at Gudang Sarinah Ekosistem. He currently serves as Director of Gudskul Contemporary Art Collective and Ecosystem Studies. MG has also contributed his skills to several art exhibitions as art director, exhibition designer and curator.

Nina Hidayat currently works as Head of the Communication Department at the MACAN Museum. Nina’s main focus is building a relationship strategy between the museum, the media and the public. She studied Communications and Media Management at Taylor's University, Malaysia, and has experience working in lifestyle media such as Prestige Indonesia and Marie Claire Indonesia. Nina also has a special interest in gender issues.

Vicky Rosalina, a graduate of Russian Literature at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia, began her interest in the art scene while working as the Project Coordinator of the Fine Arts Committee at Dewan Kesenian Jakarta. Since 2011, she has been involved in organizing major art exhibitions such as the Jakarta Biennale and has been involved in several other arts festivals.

She also attended the residency program at Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven, The Netherlands) for the exhibition management program. From 2017 to 2018, she worked as Exhibition Coordinator for the Europalia Arts Festival Indonesia. She is currently a freelance manager and program coordinator for various institutions, programs, and arts and cultural activities.
