Grave Decisions

Director: Marcus Hausham Rosenmüller, colour, 102 min., 2006

GoetheHaus Jakarta

An eleven year old searches for immortality. Splendidly cheeky and incredibly Bavarian. A little prankster tale, a typical Bavarian Lausbubengeschichte, set in 2006. A wonderful blend of depth and heartfelt emotion with an authentic sense for the little things that are important in life.

“The director masterfully and entertainingly presents an energetic prankster tale in the vein of a [Ludwig Thoma’s] Lausbubengeschichte, blending fantastic fictive elements with Rock ‘n’ Roll and Bavarian candour. Rosenmüller, who obviously has no qualms about breaking genre barriers, fully deserved to win the ‘Förderpreis Deutscher Film’ at this year’s Filmfest München in the Best Director category. ‘Grave Decisions’ is consummate Bavarian popular drama, alternating between purgatory and delusions of omnipotence. The narrative is authentic, imaginative and uplifting. Rosenmüller must have had a crazy childhood.”
