Music echoes through all the turns and tides of GoetheHaus Jakarta. Artists take the stage, some new, some familiar, and claim their presence through their ideas. Some find their way back in different forms. SIMAKDIALOG is one of them.
Its history with GoetheHaus Jakarta goes back to the early days of Serambi Jazz, initiated by the band’s leader Riza Arshad together with Goethe-Institut Jakarta. The programme brought contemporary and innovative German, Indonesian, and European jazz musicians to the stage, while creating a space for musical exchange between Germany and Indonesia.
SIMAKDIALOG became a longstanding partner in that story. They performed at GoetheHaus Jakarta over the years, launched two of their albums here, and were sent to represent Indonesia at an international jazz trade fair & showcase. Their music has continued to move between progressive jazz and Indonesian musical traditions, with a changing lineup that brings together veteran players and musicians still finding their footing. That constant movement has always been part of what makes the band distinctive.
The group went through a period of uncertainty and obscurity after a profound loss within the group, but now they return with a new lineup, carrying the same spirit that has been with us for so long. We are glad to welcome them back as part of the encounters that mark the reopening of GoetheHaus, in the framework of our flagship music programme, Alur Bunyi!
Together with
SIMAKDIALOG
was originally formed in 1993 as a room for experimentation and dialogue through sounds and composition by famed Indonesian pianist Riza Arshad. The group was never defined by the prowess of a single individual, but by the shared vision of musicians who came together to explore similar ideas.
The group has released nine albums from 1995 to 2026, won various accolades such as Anugerah Musik Indonesia thrice, in 2003, 2014, and 2019. SIMAKDIALOG have also played in international stages, such as JazzAHead! Bremen 2012, Promenade Jazz Festival in Yokohama, Kathmandu Jazz Fest 2004 and 2010, as well as their lengthy United States of America tour between 2013 and 2014.
Currently, SIMAKDIALOG consists of Sri Hanuraga (piano), Jason Mountario (Electric Bass), Cucu Kurnia (Sundanese Kendang), Dinar Rizkianti (Vocal).
