Visitors who know GoetheHaus Jakarta for the amplifiers of its concerts and the projectors of its screenings will find that the stage and seating arrangement make it just as much a theatre space. As part of the reopening program, we present a theatre format in which artists turn their own life stories into performances. By combining personal memories, research, and creative storytelling, they invite audiences into an intimate encounter with real experiences and individual perspectives.
Indonesian Dreams by Haifa Marwan
Inspired by Fatimah (1938) by Hoesin Bafagih, Indonesian Dreams intertwines historical texts with Haifa Marwan’s personal memories. Through storytelling, archival materials, live video, and multimedia, the performance reflects gender, migration, religion, and national identity while inviting audiences to reconsider how history shapes memory and the idea of home.
The Goethe-Institut Indonesia wishes to thank all the artists and collaborators of the project in Indonesia, the Phillippines and Vietnam, especially the mentors of the project, Regine Dura and Hans-Werner-Kroesinger, aRRRah bersama (Rebecca Kezia, M. Abe, Chriskevin Adefrid), Maria Pankratia, Aik Vela, also Anna Wagner and Marijan Randak of the Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt.
