As much as it is a place to watch and listen, GoetheHaus Jakarta has always been a place to gather. Many who first came to the space as spectators stayed to become makers and organisers. What the space has taught is togetherness with no single way in. Our workshop programme carries that commitment forward: a studious space where everyone learns collectively.
That commitment has continued elsewhere, in another shape and form, even while our doors were closed. Since early this year, Goethe-Institut Indonesien has initiated "Between the Mountain and the Sea," a residency programme developed in collaboration with Arka Kinari.
Since March 2026, Mutia Bunga have been one of the artists in residence aboard Arka Kinari, a sailing ship transformed into a floating cultural space by musicians Filastine & Nova. Sailing across the Indonesian and Southeast Asian archipelagos, the ship connects coastal communities through artistic encounters around environmental and cultural sustainability.
From Cirebon and Mount Ciremai in Kuningan to the Mediterranean Sea and Ambon Manise, Mutia have gathered stories and impressions along the way. Her stop at GoetheHaus Jakarta will be one of the final stops of the journey, offering a glimpse of their coastal encounters before the project’s final presentation in early 2027.
For the “Plastic Memory: Fragments of the Sea – 2D Fragment” workshop, upcycling artist Mutia Bunga invites participants to create two-dimensional artworks using recycled plastic waste, particularly LDPE plastic commonly found in everyday shopping bags. Together, they will explore plastic fragments as a medium for expressing personal memories, experiences, emotions, and individual interpretations of the
sea.
The workshop is open to 15 adult participants. Participants are encouraged to bring pen, pencil, scissors, and clean, used plastic shopping bags from home.
