Ruairí Ó Cuív | Public Art Manager, Dublin City Council

My first memories of working with the Goethe-Institut Irland stretch back to the early nineteen eighties when having just completed my degree, I was engaged to install exhibitions which the Institut brought over to Ireland. These were so important to a development of an awareness of twentieth century art in Ireland.  Whether the exhibitions were of renowned German print makers, or the major exhibition of Tomi Ungerer’s work in the 1985 or the support for the Douglas Hyde Gallery with the exhibition by Anselm Kiefer in 1990 the Goethe-Insitut Irland has significantly contributed to the richness of arts and culture in Ireland. And of course most recently I had the honour of working for Dublin City Council in the partnership with the Institu on the Voices of Memory sound art omission by Christina Kubisch. My career has been inextricably connected with the Institut over decades and it has been an honour and a privildge to have worked so closely with all the Directors and staff I have encountered over those years.
