The Mipigo Festival will feature unique solo and duet performances by talented local and international artists on a wide range of percussive instruments from drums, cymbals and xylophones to gongs, bells, rattles and even electronic sounds! Prepare to journey from silence into the mystical world of sound and vibration, music and melody, rhythm and beats.
Mipigo is presented by DebeDebe, a platform dedicated to protect and promote the art of live African drumming whose teachers and traditions in Kenya have increasingly been fading with modern times. DebeDebe hosts drum circles (open to the public), offers private lessons in drumming and percussion, facilitates group drumming workshops and conducts professional music performances at popular venues throughout the city. Amongst the founders of DebeDebe are two of the top percussionists in Kenya who are well-known artists throughout the music community, namely Charles “Chalo-T” Obuya and Daniel “Mbutch” Mburu Muhuni.
