Exhibition FOUND FOOTAGE

Found Footage Migwa Nthigah

11.-25. February 2017

Goethe-Institut Nairobi

Found Footage is the preface to the curatorial project, Crossings & Moorings, an immersive and interactive multi-media exhibition exploring historical movement of people, and the transmission and transformation of identities across geography and time, with a focus on the cultures of the Indian Ocean Coast.

Taking as its starting point, the Afro-Iran project of German-Iranian photographer Mahdi Ehsaei, Found Footage experiments with storytelling by including images from work by award-winning documentary photographer Migwa Nthigah to weave narratives of everyday movement and interaction within, and among cultures existing along the Indian Ocean Coast. Found Footage also showcases archival images from contributors like Dr. Nidhi Mahajan and The Friends of Fort Jesus.

conversations abound, taking us between coasts, transporting us through spaces, places, and time. You might just spot a distant relative as you meander through the exhibition listening to the market, songs, calls to prayer and ocean waves, evoking many pasts and presents.
