Picture Book Cinema
Public Reading
Picture book cinema is a fascinating method of introducing children to the world of stories and illustrations. The pictures of a picture book are projected onto a large screen while the text is read or played aloud. This enables a shared and interactive experience that supports visual and auditory learning.
Digital reading for children (between 4 and 8-years)
The interactive form of reading involves pictures and animations whereby the children look at an illustration of the book (without text) presented on a screen, while the story is being presented by a storyteller. The picture book cinema offers numerous methodological and didactic applications. The biggest advantage of the picture book cinema is of course that I can watch the illustration of the picture book together with a whole class. Unlike a normal reading class, Bilderbuchkino creates an atmosphere that stimulates children’s imagination. And it’s aimed at children between the ages of 4 and 8 years.
The Bilderbuchkino service is offered in two approaches:
- Firstly, the Goethe-Institut Namibia through the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture promotes reading in different school libraries.
- Secondly, the service is offered to Kindergartens and private Schools through either a session at the Goethe-Institut Namibia Library or school premises.
The Goethe-Institut provides all the technical equipment, including the slide show and the reader.
An analogue version of children's book cinema is known as and is also included in our programme.
