Zu viel Papier

Every fifth tree in the world is felled for the production of paper. And especially in Germany a lot of paper is used: 251 kilograms per year per person. That is as much paper as the population of Africa and South America together use.

Around three to three and a half trees have to be felled to produce 250 kilograms of paper. And the demand for paper continues to grow worldwide.

The paper for Germany comes mainly from Finland or from Scandinavian countries. But Germany also buys wood from forests in Canada, South America and Asia for the production of paper. When forests are cleared, animal habitats are often destroyed.

Sometimes trees are felled that are hundreds of years old. Unfortunately, the paper made from it ends up in our trash.

We urgently need to rethink and act here.
